On-chip combined with FNAP-sort to discover unknown environmental microbial strains

The Nature journal describes a method that combines microfluidic droplet technology with fluorescent nucleic acid probes (FNAP-sort). This study can identify and cultivate primitive species with very low content (< 1%), The experimental steps are shown in the figure.

The On-chip Sort cell sorter and On-chip SPiS single particle dispenser played an indispensable role in this experiment. The research team also highly praised the instruments. Oil droplets can be screened accurately and gently, and this technology can be widely used to explore and establish more unknown microorganisms that have not yet been discovered.
